New ice rink being flooded near viaduct

Ice Making

The Faribault Parks and Recreation Department is working to finish a new outdoor ice rink near the viaduct.

Crews began pouring water after the first of the year, and as long as weather cooperates, the ice will be ready for skating in early to mid January. The area already had berms installed, so all that was needed was the flooding.

The ice rink will complement the already open rinks located at Jefferson Park, 910 Ninth Ave. SW, where a warming house, leisure rink and two hockey rinks are located. Jefferson is open from 4-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1-9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The new rink near the viaduct will be open during daytime hours.
