Prepared, Not Scared: September is National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month, recognized each September, is focused on promoting family and community disaster, and emergency planning now and throughout the year. The 2019 theme is "Prepared, Not Scared."

This year, let’s focus on the small actions everyone can take to keep themselves and their families safer from fire.

Teach your kids and family members about the importance of having working smoke alarms in their home. And, just as important, everyone needs to have a family escape plan - and it should be practiced.

We all know how quickly little fires can grow into big fires. Make sure and be prepared - sometimes there is as little as two minutes to escape from our homes after we hear the smoke alarm.

The U.S. Fire Administration has many resources you can use to teach the importance of home escape plans.
